Research into physical properties of cast iron suggested heat treatment conditions such as the temperature and time of heating. This treatment shows an intense denitration of cast iron by slag. The treatment provides a stable nitrogen content, better strength and quality of castings. It is good practice to perform out-of-furnace treatment of cast iron by inert gases to lower the maximum heating temperature and to improve the lining strength.
