We discuss techniques for fabrication of low-alloy steel items that are resistant to sulfide stress cracking when used in environments containing hydrogen sulfide. We also describe implementation of these techniques during production of Grade L80 casing pipe from 200Kh1MFA steel at Severskiy Trubnyy Zavod (Seversk Pipe Plant). The irreversible structural changes that occur in the steel under study upon exposure to a medium containing hydrogen sulfide were studied during tests to determine resistance to sulfide stress cracking.
