A review is made on the works related to precipitation in solid solutions. The model of cluster structure (Guinier-Preston zones) and the mechanism of cluster transformation into a nucleus of precipitating phase are proposed. The model describes the behavior of excess dislocations, growth step formation and lateral growth mechanism. A consideration is given to thermodynamic aspects of solid solution decomposition and to the concept of the nucleus of new phase precipitation.
