The addition of finely divided solid fuel to bauxite charge has been proposed as a strategy for improving the technical and economic parameters of the process of sintering bauxite charge in a rotary furnace. The additive, which marginally deteriorates the quality of the initial components, contributes to the development of internal crystallochemical transformations in the resulting sintered mass owing to a change in the intensity of heat and mass transfer processes. Laboratory studies of thermal transformations in the bauxite charge sinter have shown that the development of the transformations reduces the temperature differences across the sample cross section. Increasing the addition of solid fuel contributes to the shifting of the compaction processes of the sintered mass to the area of elevated heat treatment temperatures. The intensification of the conditions for the development of internal crystallochemical transformations using an internal heat source in the form of a solid fuel additive up to 1% increases the amounts of aluminum and sodium oxides in the solution after the leaching of the resulting sinter.
