Forming mechanism of dog nail point for railroads is studied. It is shown that choping by heads of given shape without tension is accompanied with reasonably substantial widening the square rod blank. The best results on minimum widening are obtained at the most magnitude of tension leading and the least friction factor. The forging-and-rolling unit for the dog nail manufacturing is designed and sampled for chopping the hot steel specimens.
