Experimental and theoretical investigations of liquid tin cooling in a travelling magnetic field were performed. The modeling of the electromagnetic forces and the Joule's heat was performed using the method of magnetic scheme substitution. The temperature field was calculated using the heat conductivity equation, in which the movement of the liquid metal was taken into account. The liquid tin velocity was evaluated by solving a two-dimensional equation of motion in the "velocity-pressure" coordinates. It was found that the model values are in good agreement with the obtained experimental data. © 1996 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
