The aim of the paper is to analyse income inequalities in Russia and assess them in the context of the norm resulting from the distribution of human capital among economically active people. This standard is based on the assumptions that the model distribution of wages results from the distribution of workers and human capital, with their remuneration calculated as a constant rate of return on human capital. The research hypothesis assumes that the discrepancy between the model and real income inequalities adversely affects the social sphere of the economy. Thus, the additional purpose of the work is to analyse the correlations of income inequalities and selected economic indicators. The research covered Russian regions in the period 2013-2016. Research results indicate a significant gap between the model and actual level of income inequalities.
