K. Marx understands commodity fetishism as a phenomenon inseparable from commodity production, creating a false world of visibility and illusions. The term «fetishism» means the power or supernatural property of an object, or even the virtuality of the state of the subject. It corresponds to the concept of fabrication, artifact, work of visibility and signs. Marxist researchers limit the study of fetishism to the surface of social life - the analysis of fetishistic forms of mass consciousness, i.e. superstructure. Not the person is mistaken concerning reality, and the reality confuses him appearing it is necessary under the form which masks it and represents in spontaneous consciousness of the individuals living in the commodity world. The theory of fetishism hinders the thinking of revolutionary transformation, because it believes that the transparency of social relations is a consequence of the abolition of commodity relations: the logic of history shows that commodity production is incompatible with renewed socialism. Therefore, it is not yet clear what kind of fetishism will take social forms and how to make it work for social progress. In a socialist society, things and social forms cease to be the dominant force - the main thing in them are the real properties and advantages, and not a fantastic value and symbolic prestigious significance.
