This article deals with the question of implementation of the model of strategic competence formation in teaching foreign language. Strategic competence is considered as an important component of foreign language communicative competence. Special attention is paid to the formation of intercultural communicative competence and the ability to use a foreign language as a means of communication in the field of future professional activities. The developed program of formation of strategic competence of cadets and students of URI State Fire Service of EMERCOM of Russia is presented. The materials of the pedagogical experiment, which was carried out in four stages, are analyzed, and the results of the study are presented.
