Introduction. In this article the authors consider the problem of teaching foreign languages at university in accordance with the students’ language levels. These problems are relevant to new tendencies in education in general and foreign languages' teaching in particular. Materials and Methods. This research is conducted on the basis of scientific literature investigation and the results of students’ questioning analysis. Results. The authors studied the advantages and disadvantages of foreign languages teaching in groups with different levels of preparation. On the one hand, such class poses many challenges not only for a teacher, but also for students. If the teachers aim to conduct their classes for the beginners, more advanced students will be bored. And if they teach the advanced students more, the beginner will be lost. The teachers try to find a happy medium and focus on their level. On the other hand, assessment of students in a group with different levels of preparation is more objective as it shows their real knowledge. At the same time, in the transition to different levels of teaching there are problems of assessing students' knowledge, and skills, as quantitatively equal indicators obtained at different levels of education are not equal in terms of language proficiency. Then the authors point out the main benefits of level-based training. This method of teaching foreign languages is dominant at present mainly thanks to authentic educational complexes. These complexes are based on development of students’ communicative competency. At present CEFR is regarded to be preferable to indicate the levels of students. The current study concerns a students' attitude to level-based training. The aim of questioning is to develop the methodology of foreign languages' training in groups with different levels. The novelty of this research work is connected with insufficient investigation of this problem, particularly the students’ opinion on it. Conclusions. The authors emphasize that in spite of the positive attitude to level-based training the students mark a lot of unsolved problems. The theme of the research is immediate and it needs further investigation.
