In the article the role of A. Comte, who was at the foundation of sociology of education, is under discussion. The article reveals the urgency of his ideas about positive cognition, about stages of worldview and society development, about education as the essential means for new system admission, about qualitative change in science, about the role of observation in scientific cognition and educational process, about the unity of theoretical and empirical and about the role of the family and intergenerational interaction in upbringing.
