Based on the data of a representative survey of university students in the Sverdlovsk region (target sample, N = 2000), important differences between students who do not think about family relationships, third-year students who have already officially registered their marriage and those who live in a civil marriage are highlighted. Research result. The monitoring study made it possible to record a significant increase in unregistered family relationships of students. Since 2016, the number of students living in a civil marriage has significantly exceeded the number of those who have officially registered their relationship. Third-year students of large cities and megacities are more likely to officially register their marriages than students of medium-sized cities and small settlements. The analysis of the last wave of monitoring showed that those students who officially register their family relationships represented the content, nature and specifics of their future profession better than other students before entering the university. They are more characterized by increased responsibility, including for studying at university. For family students, it is more typical to assess the importance and significance for them of the value of the family as a social institution. The prospects of the research are further opportunities within the next monitoring waves to assess the changes characteristic of all types of student families in the regional context.
