The Internet in the new millennium has become an integral part of culture and society. The relevance of studying its influence on the individual and social is determined by its structural and functional capabilities: in fact, it becomes an institution for the socialization of new generations, which is actively incorporated into educational systems as well. However, from the standpoint of science, it is important to understand the impact of the Internet on the formation of basic values among young people in relation to the family and the state, those values that will form the basis of their activities and a common future. Therefore, the goal of this article is to try to justify the role and influence of social media on such characteristics of youth culture as family and civic values. The content analysis of social media, carried out according to the author’s methodology in the period May-September 2018, was used as the main research method. The results of the study make it possible to judge the existence of a serious influence on the formation of family and civic values of young people of content that is popular in social media. Confidence is generated by the use of characters of the same age, humor, and various visualizations and entertainment that allow modern generations to more quickly and efficiently absorb and process information. At the same time, the content of social media reflects the diversity of changes occurring in the socio-cultural plan: various types and models of family and family relations, trends of polygamy, small children and childlessness, lack of clear guidelines on relations with the state (duty, honor), distance from real politics and etc. This should be taken into account when developing policies for young people, since the values transmitted directly form not only the way of thinking, but also influence the practical choices and daily activities of young people.
