The article presents an attempt to analyze the main means of metaphorical representation of the Chinese police in the Internet discourse and to reveal the correlation between the generated vector of perception of the police and the data provided in the reports on the China Police Trust Index (or the “transparency index”). The research material contains a large sample of 348 comments on videos that cover police actions in various situations (including protest rallies) on the BiliBili and YouTube platforms over the period from 2019 to 2022. The comments are grouped into 5 main frames, a number of which have a branched slot structure (“Social role of a policeman”, “Functional variations of police”, “Attitude of the public to police”, “Personal traits of a policeman”, “Attitude of policemen to their professional duties”). The authors come to the conclusion that both the analysis of the metaphorical representation of the image of the Chinese police and the Chinese and foreign statistics indicate a positive trend in the context of the index of trust in the police. At the same time, various factors are taken into account that could affect the specifically unipolar metaphorical representation of the image of the PRC police on media video hosting platforms and sites: the policy of censoring information posted on the Internet, the patriotic education and the high importance of the concept of patriotism in the system of values of the citizens of the country.
