The purpose of this article is to characterize the phenomenon of academic mobility through the reflection of linear and nonlinear models of Russian higher education in it. The article presents a systematic evaluation of academic mobility as a social process coupled with the renewal of higher education in this country. The authors identify key issues of academic mobility in Russia based on the review of secondary data of the results of theoretical and empirical studies.
