Foreign practice of setting the salary payment grades is reviewed in the article together with the principles of rate adjustment depending on the result of employees performance. Advantages of grade payment system at a certain enterprise and stages of its development are evaluated. Different approaches to salary payment differentiation within a certain grade targeted at stimulating better results are enumerated.
