The purpose of the work was to develop and implement a system for monitoring the level of students' learning in metal chemistry at a vocational pedagogical university with an emphasis on assessing the knowledge component. The study was conducted on the basis of the Department of Mathematical and Natural Sciences of the Russian State Vocational Pedagogical University from 2020 to 2023. The stages of control of students' knowledge and skills in the process of studying the discipline are presented. The revealed results of the entrance control indicate a low level of knowledge in all sections of the discipline. The relevance of laboratory work as a tool for the formation of professional and universal competencies is emphasized. It is noted that conducting knowledge control before performing laboratory work allows you to identify the degree of readiness of a student to perform an experiment and analyze the results obtained. The results of the control of students' independent work are presented; the reasons for unsatisfactory grades in some sections are described, and methods of solving the problem are indicated. A satisfactory assessment of the results of the final control work in the discipline is given. The combined form of knowledge control during intermediate certification is justified. The system of monitoring students' learning in chemistry developed by the authors provides an opportunity not only to assess the level of knowledge, skills and abilities acquired by them, but also to adjust, if necessary, the actions of the teacher in the educational process.
