The purpose of this article is to consider trends of appearance of Russian political figures in a comic show and discover their role in production of the comical. Michel Foucault discourse and discursive practices concept is applied as a basic theoretical apparatus. Convergence or estrangement of the comical and the political in the symbolic reality of the Russian mass media of leisure is determined by the Soviet tradition of social and political relevance of laughter among other things. There are no ideologically defined objects of ridicule in today’s comical discourse, but there are objects without the comical disclosure - the leading state politicians as the symbols of the Russian public ideological space. Russian politicians are the subjects of the comical discourse as well, and it extends the range of political figures identifications, based not only on their political status and shows greater transparency of today’s political realm compared with Soviet times. It is revealed that the value aspect - moral and ethical standards, serves as the main distinguishing feature of political figures and discursive unity / separation with the viewing audience. Compliance of the traditionally approved moral and ethical code does not always improve a politician’s positive (self-) identification. The study was performed on the material of the “Evening Urgant” comic show.
