On the 7th of January 2016 passed away Head of the Department of Religious Studies, Professor Daniil V. Pivovarov, a prominent researcher in the field of ontology, epistemology, and philosophy of religion. For over 40 years he had worked to solve the fundamental problems within philosophy and religion. Pivovarov’s publications are well-known to the scientific community and widely cited. This review analyses the conceptual bases of the interaction between science and religion as reflected in Pivovarov’s monograph Science and Religion: Epistemological Essays. The monograph dwells on four essays dealing with the philosophy of science and epistemology of religion. In addition, it identifies important conceptual aspects of the relationship between faith and reason, faith and knowledge, as well as of the models of relationships between science and religion.
