The article examines the main existing approaches to assessing the economic development of the modern university. The author analyzes financial and economic indicators of the activity of higher educational institutions of different federal districts in Russia in order to describe the economic conditions and attributes for implementing the nonlinear model of higher education in a macro-region. This determines the relevance and originality of the article in comparison with other related works.
