The problem of unity and plurality of meaning of being was the subject of extensive discussion in medieval philosophy. The discussion was actualised in the continental ontology in the second part of the twentieth century and reappeared unexpectedly at the beginning of the twenty-fi rst century in the ontology and meta-ontology in analytic philosophy. Despite the different historical background and theoretical motives of this discussion, the whole complex of problems relating to the possibility of building the ontology and its system of concepts, was taken into consideration. The history of the problem, the ways of solutions of this problem in analytic philosophy, in the “mainstream ontology” and ontological pluralism are discussed in the article. The event is postulated as the initial problem of the methodology of convergence of the analogy and univocity.
