This article is a part of a study on the unofficial names of urban realities of Ekaterinburg, which were created by citizens outside the official onomastics of the city. There are lexical units that are not recorded in the modern dictionaries, but are widely used by the inhabitants of the city in informal conversation. These names can be called informal urbanonyms as they are alternate to official names of urban realities. These names help language communities to highlight a discussed reality, to identify it and to distinguish from similar. This author of the article considers the experience of creating dictionaries of sub-standard vocabulary, describes creation “Dictionary of Ekaterinburg citizen”, where the unofficial names of urban realities are given that can become the basis for formation of the “voice portrait” of modern Ekaterinburg. The “Dictionary” can help to distinguish Ekaterinburg among other Russian cities giving unique image of “the capital of the Urals”. Unofficial names of urban realities constitute special layer of conversational sub-prime vocabulary peculiar to the specific Russian city. The dictionary also contains information concerning local history, specificity of etymology, grammar, and types of discourse. Many urban realities have their unofficial names in the city; therefore, the analysis of the quantitative composition of the onomastic vocabulary showed that these language units are of major importance for citizens.
