The article considers the gender aspects of students’ professional identity’s process of engineering specialties. The problem of involvement of women in engineering and hi-tech study program is becoming an international trend, the intellectual contribution of women is important as never before for national economies. The gender asymmetry of professional roles begins with the selection of the profile of learning in the school and then choosing professional education based on the preferences of young people in employment. Noting the importance of the orientation of pupils and students at engineering universities, there are some reasons why women are avoiding the traditional «male» areas of employment. At the same time, special attention is paid to the study of motives of choice of women in the engineering profession for professional training for a future career. To study gender peculiarities of students’ interest for future engineering profession was used the survey data of Ural Federal University students, choosing for himself a purely technical specialty, as well as data analysis of the materials of the seventh stage of sociological monitoring of student’s youth of the Ural region, conducted during twenty years the Department of sociology and technology of state and municipal administration of the Ural Federal University.
