The article deals with the English proverbs containing antonymous correlations great - little, great - small. Several linguistic strategies of measurement based on cognitive operations of comparison of object and standard dimensions are found in proverbs. The author characterizes the metaphoric mappings of dimensions demonstrating the asymmetry of the antonyms under consideration.
