The article deals with a problem of successful realization of professional career strategy by university postgraduates under the changing Russian society conditions. The author follows by subjective approach to investigation of a career success and researches career success through the postgraduates’ satisfaction of their professional activity. An analysis of professional career success of young people presented in the paper based on the results of the two stages study of university graduates with work experience from one to five years, conducted by the author in 2002 and 2010. The questionnaire of graduates was used at both stages with target quota sample (N = 300).The surveys’ results show that the successful realization of professional career strategy is related to orientation to career and professional growth, but not with flexibility of strategy. Setting career has been measured by the Likert scale, and flexibility of career is viewed as employment not to according their specialty after high school, or subsequent change of the scope of professional activity. Based on the results, the author proposes to create more opportunities for the development of the youth positive motivation for professional development within the pre-selected professional field, supporting youth recruitment agencies, supporting sites to find future work in the specialty for students, graduates and young professionals, developing and implementing a system of grants for career start on learning outcomes, and under the proposed youth projects.
