The article analyzes the process of upgrading of theoretical principles of ecological education planning on different levels. Ecological competence, and subsequently ecological awareness as a result of mastering ecological competence, is regarded as a core element of ecological education which will therefore enable modern students to succeed in using ecological, pedagogical and psychological principles and regularities of molding ecological consciousness and ecological culture coherent to the objectives of stable development.
