The article examines the difficulties translators face when translating Russian prose into Chinese. It is noted that the main problems are related to differences in vocabulary and culture, the transfer of Russian grammatical structure into Chinese, as well as the requirement for explanations for facts unfamiliar to the Chinese reader and references to Russian history and Russian literature. Translators try to preserve the author’s style and convey the emotional depth of the work, using their skills and techniques of literary translation.
