The article analyzes the dominant metaphorical models that function in modern Russian media and reflect the specifics of the image of China that has developed in the view of Russians over the past 20 years (“China is a miracle”, “China is a threat”). The axiological potential of conceptual metaphors is revealed and the ambivalence and estimated inconsistency of the image of China is established.
