Based on a semistructured survey and indepth interviews with informants from large metropolitan areas and peripheral territories, the author reveals user preferences and social media activity of representatives of the Russian media generation of the “digital frontier”. Being a middle media generation between the “analogue” and “digital” media worlds, its representatives mastered the Internet and social networks mainly in the final years of the formative period. Nevertheless, they have managed to adapt to the digital reality and use social media in their daily media practices. The results showed that the goals and results of media use are more related to professional activity than to the area of residence.
