Introduction. The study is devoted to the problems of the career counseling for university students. The successful professional self-determination becomes the key to future successful professionalization. According to employers, a marker of unsuitability in the labor market is the lack of awareness of one’s choice and professional goals. The purpose of the study is to find methodological tools for conducting the career counseling for students. Methodology. The study was conducted using testing methods: Career Anchors (Shane) and Holland’s test on two samples of students: the first year students of the Faculty of Chemistry (111 students) and the second year students of the Faculty of Psychology (103 students). The relationship between the scales of the two methods was determined by the Spearman coefficient. Results. The most pronounced types of professional personality orientation according to Holland’s test among chemists are revealed - intellectual and artistic; psychologists - social and artistic. Students in both groups demonstrate mainly orientation to horizontal career types (service, professional competence), as well as orientation to conditions (stability of the place of work, integration of lifestyles, autonomy) Significant correlations were found between the scales of the Career Anchor methods and the Holland model test. Chemists have a direct relationship between the leading intellectual personality type and the professional competence scale and feedback with the scales: management and job stability. Students of Psychology did not reveal any connection with the leading social personality type according to the Career Anchor scales. Correlations between the indicators of the two methods suggest that psychology students need more detailed acquaintance with the directions of their future activities. Relationships confirming the convergent and discriminatory validity of the methods are also identified. Conclusion. The results of the study allow us to consider the possibility of using the Holland’s and Career Anchor’s methods in the career counseling. On the basis of certain correlation patterns, recommendations are made for career guidance work with students of different areas of training.
