The velocity of ultrasound in superheated liquid alcohols was studied within a broad range of metastable states. The alcohols studied were methanol, ethanol, n-butanol, and n-pentanol. The depth of the investigated metastable region at atmosphere pressure is greater than 100°K. The equations of state for the alcohols were used to determine adiabatic and isothermal compressibility and the Poisson constant.
