Copper alloying effect (0-4 mass % Cu) on the process of ageing in austenitic nonmagnetic steel type 40G10N10F1 was under consideration. The alloying with copper was shown to have no essential influence on steel hardening as well as on dimensions and distribution of disperse carbides inside the grain bodies. It affects the width of near-boundary zones and grain boundary stability on ageing. A conclusion is made that VC carbide distribution is of cellular nature. It is noted that primary VC carbides can serve as indicators of the state of ″carbide-austenite″ system on ageing the steel considered.
