Simulation on two-dimensional models reveals the main topological trends in microstructure evolution. There is a transition from homogeneous (coherent) sintering to locally inhomogeneous for certain values of the kinetic coefficients (nominal sintering rate).
When the two-particle coalescence rate attains a critical value, the size of the homogeneous sintering zones stabilizes.
