The process suggested involves the rail preparation (transverse cutting, removal of defects); longitudinal thermal cutting to have the head, the neck and the base; heating and rolling of each kind of billet; cooling and cutting to size. The process was tested on rails of R65. Mechanical properties of rail steels M74 and M76 are compared with those of reinforced, tool, structural, spring steels and steels for milling spheres.
