The unplanned transition from traditional to distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic in spring of 2019 has become a challenge for universities around the world. All teachers had to determine the most effective tools for organ-izing the educational process within a short period of time. It was especially difficult to organize practical classes, on teaching a foreign language in particular. Foreign language teaching is based on a communicative approach, which involves a large amount of communication and interaction between a teacher and students, as well as students with each other. This article presents the results of practical application of Microsoft Teams tools for teaching a foreign language in a remote format of students of non-linguistic educational programs of the Ural Federal University in 2019-2020. The purpose of this study is to identify the most effective tools provided by the services of the Microsoft Teams electronic platform for teaching a foreign language, and to describe methods of their application to solve various educational tasks. The authors of the research have studied the Russian and foreign experience of using electronic services in teaching a foreign language, have identified methods of teaching a foreign language using the services of the electronic platform Microsoft Teams. Empirical research methods have allowed the authors to determine the most effective methods of teaching various types of speech activity in a foreign language. The authors conclude that various services of the Microsoft Teams electronic platform pro-vide adoptable tools for organizing a productive and motivational process of learning a foreign language remotely.
