N2 - The paper presents a concise overview of a novel and promising area, namely, magnetic cooling technology that utilizes the magnetocaloric effect (MCE). The nature of the effect and the main relevant publications in this field are succinctly examined. The materials in which the MCE is observed are reported, and corresponding charts reflecting the number of main works of the last five years are presented. Additionally, recent research findings of Russian scientists in this field are considered.
