Comparison between changes in the atomic volume and the minimum interatomic distance during melting of metals with fcc structure in conjunction with an analysis of the atomic radial-distribution functions enabled the authors to reveal structural differences in melts caused by structural features of the electronic shells. The liquid metals considered in the analysis that have the fcc premelting structure are Co, Ni, Cu, Al, Ag, Au, Pb, and In.
