The results of modeling and designing a 76-element patch antenna array for use with a wind profiler are presented. The antenna consists of four subarrays. Optimization of the step between the elements and their feed network is performed. The wind profiler operates in a dedicated frequency range of 1680 MHz. The operating frequency band is equal to 40 MHz and provides optimal signal reception at all possible wind speeds. The directivity pattern of the antenna array is shown. The simulated and measured dependencies of the return losses confirmed the accuracy of the calculations. The radar reflectivity of clear air echoes is under consideration. The parameters of the simulated antenna are used to estimate the maximum range of radar operation when reflected from atmospheric turbulence of varying intensity. Methods of increasing the sensing range of the wind profiler are proposed. The suggested antenna array allows it to be used as part of a monopulse radar.
