We will consider the case of preparing a thesis for the degree of Ph.D. by a Chines Ph.D. students at Ural Federal University. Special attention will be paid to how Chinese students learn the Russian humanities tradition in the Covid19 era, and distance learning with the help of LMS and SME. Following the methodology of Critical Literacy, we will consider the affordances and disadvantages of e-learning by Chines Ph.D. students. We will recognize Russian humanities tradition through three key elements: scientific researching fields, language of scientific communication, LMS and SME as instruments of involving foreign Ph.D. students in the Russian cultural and scientific contexts. The advantages of e-learning include open scientific communication with scientists from different countries and access to scientific and cultural papers and videos by university subscription, as well as opportunities for involving process to Russian scientific and cultural context for qualification paper research. A serious disadvantage of working remotely with Chinese Ph.D. students is the need to build remote educational communications in English, which is not a native language for either party. English is the Second Language for each person in such a process in Russian universities. This is a significant obstacle to creating texts in Humanity in a scientific style in British English. A significant contribution to solving this problem would be to include built-in linguistic and intermedial (word - picture – hieroglyph) translators in the services for educational platforms, allowing each person to communicate successfully.
