A method for recovery of grain boundaries in the pattern of polished sections of polycrystalline materials is proposed. The method is based on granulometric mapping and grain pattern analysis and takes account of defects and grain boundary discontinuities. Effects of distortion and anisotropy of the grain pattern on the fidelity of boundary network recovery are evaluated. © 1997 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
