The purpose of the study is to describe Russian fantasy novels about magic schools classified as young adult. The author compares six young-adult Russian fantasy novels (“Tanya Grotter and the magical double bass” by D. Emts, “School at Carmarthen” by A. Korosteleva, “Julianna or dangerous games” by Y. Voznesenskaya, “Clock Key” by N. Scherba, “Yarilin’s manuscript” by M. Kozinaki and S. Avdyukhina, “Vita Nostra” by M. and S. Dyachenko) and assumes that the model given in Harry Potter’s novels is strongly transformed.
