An analysis of the collection of letters from two young people allows us to speak about the special status of songs in the communication of young people in the 1960s. The paper presents an attempt to classify the contexts and situations in which songs are included in the text of the letter, according to a functional feature. Two main trends stand out: songs act as a means of building a common cultural code and switching the register of communication. Detailing of these basic strategies is carried out, as well as observations are reflected on how songs are included in the (con)texts of self-identifications and self-descriptions of the participants in the correspondence.
