The article analyzes the key trends and findings in the contemporary studies of the 1917 Revolution, especially its historical and anthropological aspects. In the 1990s, historiographers made significant achievements in their inquiries into public consciousness, psychology and attitudes of various social groups in the Revolution of 1917. Substantial progress in this field was further made in the period between 2000 and 2010, when scholars adopted novel theoretical concepts such as experience, total war, modernization and others. The same period was marked by the publication of major works, active development of regional studies; and considerable expansion of the source base.
