The peculiarities of interaction of pure and radiation-modified freshly cleaved in vacuum lithium hydride surface with moisture and gaseous impurities were studied. It is shown that the interaction of pure surface of a lithium hydride single crystal with air results in formation of an atomic layer of LiOH. Surface oxide layer composition and its parameters have been determined by Rutherford backscattering method.
