The article studies the topical problem of a composer’s spiritual being in a culture. The author analyzes the social conditions of a composer in the totalitarian system of the Soviet culture of the 1920s-1930s when an artist’s status had significantly changed in culture as compared to the pre-revolutionary times. Additionally, the author considers the issue with reference to authentic documents and materials published in recent research works in the sphere.
