The article characterizes memoirs as the main source of information about the teachers employed by the nobility to educate their children at home in Russia in the 18th century. Ethnicity of teachers is revealed, as well as their level of training, forms of employment, wages, curricula and teaching methods, forms of punishment pupils used by teachers.
