Various methods of the work surface treatment are used for prolongation of machine parts life exposed to different types of wear. Sprayed Fe-C-Cr-Ti-Al coating are widely used to protect against abrasive wear, but their lamellar porous struc- ture reduces the wear resistance. Metallurgical processes in coatings obtained by arc spraying from cored wires Fe-C-Cr- Ti-Al system and their influence on the characteristics of coatings are considered in this paper. For coating deposition was used the device of active arc spraying ADM-10. Remelting of sprayed coatings was carried out on the universal installation for plasma treatment of materials. The plasma treatment was done on a direct current polarity with using argon as a pro- tective and plasma gas. The results of studies of structure, microhardness and chemical composition of arc-sprayed coat- ings before and after plasma remeltingare presented. Plasma treatment coatings resulted in his remelting and a significant change in the structure and microhardness. The microhardness of coatings is significantly increased in comparison with base sprayed coating. It is noted it more uniform distribution of the coating thickness, due to the homogeneous coatings structure and the absence of oxide layers, porosity and of voids as well as the uniform distribution of chemical elements in the coating. It was determined that the oxidation of aluminum and titanium in process of plasma remelting of sprayed coatings promote formation of martensite structure with hardening by dispersed chromium carbides.
