To better understand BIM, this article takes a historical perspective. The initiatives of various research institutes and how they influenced each other are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the development of the software industry and their delicate relationship with science. In today's design process, BIM systems support spatial design that can be used with the help of intelligent technologies. Typically this smart technology is added after the spatial design at the final design stage by the installation expert. In our study, we want to reverse this process; smart technology adapted to spatial design.
