In the experimental workshop of AVISMA branch of OJSC "Corporation VSMPO-AVISMA" experiments on the recovery of titanium from its tetrachloride by calcium, dissolved in molten CaCl2 were carried ont. It is shown that when enough of the reducing agent in СаС12 soluble chlorides of titanium of a lower valence, mainly TiCl2 are formed. Upon dissolution of the frozen float in water causes oxidation of the ions Ti2+ to the trivalent state, accompanied by heating of the solution and evolution of hydrogen. In the solid residue the intermediate reduced forms of oxygen-containing compounds mainly Ті2О, TiO, Ti4Fe2O0,4 are present, gives metallic luster to a Deposit. An excess of reducing leads to complications associated with the washing of slightly water-soluble compounds of Ca(OH)2, CaCO3, resulting from the interaction of Ca with water.
