The article examines the semantics of red color in the Chinese and Russian cultural products. The authors use the concept of everyday life and Lotman‘s semiotic approach to analyze a large number of empirical data. A conclusion is drawn on the commonness of the positive values of the red color due to the proximity of both cultures to nature - with the dominance of the ethical meanings of red in the Chinese culture and its vital and aesthetic meanings in Russian culture.
